Earth Day

April 22 of every year marks Earth Day, a day to help raise awareness about the importance of protecting our planet. It’s also in response to the mass amounts of pollution and deforestation. First held in 1970, Senator Gaylord Nelson established the annual celebration. Because of Earth Day, we now have the United States Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA for short. Why do we need Earth Day? Humans dump around 8 million metric tons of plastic in the ocean each year. On average, a single person generates around 4 pounds of trash a day. So whether it’s remembering to recycle, or planting a tree, mark your calendars for this year's Earth Day.
